What is the Network?
The Network was developed in December 2001 as a partnership between
Aboriginal communities and academic researchers. The NAMHR is funded by
the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and includes a network of
researchers from across Canada with extensive experience in Aboriginal
health and related areas.
What research does the Network carry out?
A series of pilot studies are being conducted that approach the
problem of developing culturally appropriate and effective mental
health care for Aboriginal populations from complementary perspectives:
Our research emphasizes putting these problems in social context.
How do communities become involved with the Network?
Communities interested in specific mental health issues should contact the Network's co-investigators or coordinator.
How can a community benefit from involvement with the Network?
The Network can provide consultation and resources to help develop
studies on mental health issues relevant to communities. It also
provides training opportunities for students and helpers within
communities to become acquainted with the methods and results of current
mental health research.
How can students become involved with the Network?
Students with an interest in research may approach one of the
co-investigators directly or contact the coordinator for more
information regarding the different areas of current
research and training opportunities within the Network.
What is the application procedure for the Aboriginal Summer Internship Program?
Each year a posting is issued describing the program and eligibility
criteria. Students may contact the coordinator directly for more
information or visit the website.
